Match Reports...

Here you can find a collection of match reports from our Saturday, Sunday, midweek  and tournament games.

Latest Results! - Notts Go Top Of The League! - On Saturday the 21st of November we played Tibshelf FC in the MAA Cup Quarter-Final away in Tibshelf. We dominated the match pretty much for 90 minutes with man-of-the-match Lee M excellent, but not for the first time, the Saturday team couldn’t convert the possession into goals, which eventually cost us after a slip at the back saw their number 9 score the only goal of the game to hand us a 1-0 defeat. Another valuable lesson of what happens when you don’t put your chances away.

On Sunday the 22nd we played Real Nottingham FC, the team just behind us in the league in what was a top of the table title clash. Knowing the importance of the game we started strongly and quickly took a 2-0 lead through goals from man-of-the-match Michael H and midfield general Adam G, before a very well placed Real Nottingham free kick saw them make it 2-1 at half time. In the 2nd half we again put them under sustained pressure until Michael H got his 2nd of the match to make it 3-1, his 5th goal in the last 3 matches.

Latest Results! - Notts Stay Top Of The League! - On Sunday the 29th of November we played Lion Revived FC away in Bulwell, looking to extend our record winning streak and stretch our lead at the top of the league. We took an early lead to go 1-0 up through Michael H before a defensive error saw us pegged back to 1-1. Going up a gear we scored 2 quick goals through Tullah K and a 2nd for Michael H to make it 3-1, then some good running by Che P presented Saddam with a good chance and he punished them further to make it 4-1. With only 10 minutes of the half remaining we continued the pressure with Tullah K making a great run and firing a superb shot into the top corner, followed by man-of-the-match John T scoring a similar effort a few minutes later to give us a 6-1 lead at the break.

In the second half we took our foot off the gas a little, but a magic free kick from Michael H to claim his hat-trick and make it 7-1, then our opposition got a consolation goal before Carl B and Rob W combined and we made it 8-2 with a looping header from Rob W. Despite the score, this was a very tough game against a team that wanted to foul us more than play football, but again we showed that we are not a team to be bullied and produced a strong attacking display to claim another 3 points and stay top of the league. Now we have 2 important Cup matches to look forward to, before the league resumes.

Latest Results! - Notts Go Through To Quarter-Finals! - On Saturday the 5th of December we played Nuthall Athletic FC in the County Cup for a place in the quarter finals. After being unlucky to lose by a single goal in the league encounter, we started this match determined to make amends and took an early 2-0 through Michael H and man-of-the-match Mark T. Being a clear second best, Nuthall decided they would try a different tactic and go into every challenge with high foot or elbows, which prevented both teams from playing football and soon the score was 2-2. Then a mistake at the back saw them take the lead for the first time, before Mark T scored his 2nd to make it 3-3 after 90 minutes. The ref finally got hold of the game in extra time and we started playing football again.

We quickly scored another 2 goals through a fine effort by Michael H and Mark T claiming his hat-trick and make it 5-3 to us. After that the game was beyond Nuthall and despite conceding another goal in the last minute of extra time, we comfortably saw out the game. This was a great team performance to earn us a place in the quarter finals, against a team that up until that point, had won every league and cup match they had played this season. On Sunday the 6th of December we were due to play T8’s FC away in Eastwood, but the pitch was called off due to the rain, which means due to not playing, we dropped to 2nd in the league after LIS FC won their match.

Latest Results! - Notts Utd Win Top Of The Table Clash! - On Saturday the 12th of December we played Tibshelf Community FC in Tibshelf. After losing to them earlier in the season in a Cup match that we dominated we were determined to put things right this time around. We fielded a side with 6 changes, seeing Piotr, Max E, Dan S, Steve Mc, Shun W and Michael H feature in what was a strong line up. In poor conditions we dominated the match throughout, with Mark T and Piotr going close several times, whilst Max E was outstanding at the back. In the 2nd half man-of-the-match Dan S rattled the crossbar as we continued the pressure, before he combined with Dan B to set up Lee Mc to score the only goal to see us finish 1-0 winners, moving 5 points off 3rd.

On Sunday the 13th of December we played title favourites AC Broxtowe. Knowing that this was a must win game for both teams if title ambitions are to be fulfilled and making a few tactical changes, we attacked from the 1st whistle and never gave Broxtowe any time on the ball as we continued to pile forward. It wasn’t long before the pressure paid off when man-of-the-match Saddam A found himself through on goal and blasted in to put us 1-0 up. That gave us a huge lift as we went up another gear and the 2nd goal wasn’t long coming, as Saddam again broke their defence to score his 2nd and make it 2-0 to us and that is how the half ended.

At half time we knew that the 1st half would count for nothing and that we had to match the performance in the 2nd half, so we again started strongly and some great work by Michael H put him clean through to make it 3-0 and put the game beyond Broxtowe. Shortly after Carl B tore through their defence to make it 4-0 with his 1st touch, before Tullah K scored a superb free kick to finish the match 5-0 and stretch our lead over Broxtowe to 8 points going into the New Year. This was a fantastic team performance under pressure, to limit a team that averaged 8 goals a game so far, to 1 goal-mouth scramble in the 2nd half. This was their biggest defeat in 12 years and sends a warning out to the rest of the league that when we play at our best we can match anyone. Now we go into 2010 just 1 point off the top of the table and with 9 league wins in a row. Next up is a tough fixture against Edwalton that we will be well up for!

Latest Results! - Win Against Town Mill To Transform Our Saturday Season! - On Saturday the 19th of December we played Town Mill FC at Gresham. This was an important match for us, as Town Mill were just above us in the table and we were looking to continue our good Saturday form. We were in control from the start, with John and Brett bossing the midfield and the defence looking strong. We made lots of chances before man-of-the-match AK produced a sublime finish to give us the lead. Shortly after Kane M made it 2-0 with a well deserved goal, then had another good effort ruled out for offside. A lapse at the back saw us concede to make it 2-1, before Saddam A nodded in from a free kick to make it 3-1. Town Mill scored again from a free kick, before debutant Seba S scored a good individual goal to finish the match 4-2 to us.

This was a big result for us, helping to transform our Saturday season that saw us near the bottom of the table a few months ago and now we sit just 2 points off 3rd place, in a good position to challenge the top 3 teams. We have another match against Town Mill next and we’ll be confident of another 3 points. On Sunday the 20th of December we had no game due to the weather.

Latest Results! - Convincing Win Against Sherwood Colliery Boosts Our Promotion Hopes! - On Saturday the 23rd of January we played Sherwood Colliery II FC away. We knew that this was a must win match against our rivals and having played these in our pre-season, we knew they are a very good team and we’d have to be up for it. There were many changes to the line up, with a debut for Andrew H and returns for Josh, Joe and Max and Wez. We started very well and put them under immense pressure, only to see a visually-challenged linesman raise his flag every time we went forward. This didn’t break our game and we soon found the back of the net, with Mark Th scoring his 18th of the season to give us a deserved lead at the break. In the 2nd half we continued the pressure with Andrew H and Seba S both striking the woodwork, before Saddam A scored an excellent looping header to double our lead. Our defence marshalled by man-of-the-match Aaron C put in their best display of the season so far, to limit Sherwood to just 1 shot on goal in the whole match. The match finished 2-0 and gave our promotion chances a massive boost.

Latest Results! - Another Win Against Chilwell Boosts Our Promotion Hopes! - On Saturday the 30th of January we played Chilwell Villa FC. Due to injury and absence we fielded a side with 6 changes from the previous match, with Chris P, Omar M, Sean G, Alex C, Aqeel G and Rob M all coming into the team. Making tactical changes for this match we went with a 4-3-3 to maximise our attacking potential, which was very effective as we took the lead through Sean G, before Lee Mc added another to make it 2-0. At half time we stressed the need for a 3rd goal to kill the game and 30 seconds into the re-start Mark Th made it 3-0, before a superb Chilwell free kick grabbed a goal for the visitors. We replied straight away through captain and man-of-the-match John T who scored a sublime goal to make it 4-1. Then Chilwell lobbed the keeper to make it 4-2 and we replied through Mark Th who scored again to make it 20 for the season, before John T’s shot rattled the bar and club stalwart Chris P fired home to finish the match 6-2.

Latest Results! - 18 Goals In 2 Games As The Greens March On! - On the weekend of the 13th and 14th of February we recorded 2 comfortable wins, scoring 18 goals in the 2 games, with man-of-the-match Sean G scoring 4 for the Saturday team to take his tally to 12 goals in 5. There was also a brace for Lee Mc. On Sunday there were hat-tricks for Jack O’S and man-of-the-match Chris P, and a brace from striker Carl B, then goals for Andrew H, Che P, Mike H and Sean C.
